Trey is from Springfield, Ohio, where he was just naturally expected to play for the Buckeyes. Coming out of high school, he was ranked as the No. 1 MLB in the nation and he quickly showed why last year. His favorite thing in the world seems to be just knocking the hell out of somebody and he is damn good at that. He played in every game last year as a true freshman, mostly on special teams. He could've been a first day starter at most other schools.
Coming out of high school, he drew comparisons to NFL linebacker Jonathan Vilma. That's high praise and it's a pretty good comparison. His best friend in high school was QB Braxton Miller, who plays for Ohio State. Miller had committed to OSU while DePriest was still undecided and I remember being pretty nervous about it until Trey announced at a Buffalo Wild Wings in Columbus, with Alabama flags and colors all around him, where he would be playing his college ball
Above is a short question and answer he did with the media following practice Thursday. Below are some of his high school highlights
I think you can expect Trey DePriest to fill in nicely for Hightower, just as Adrian Hubbard will take over for Courtney Upshaw. These young guys, along with the veterans, CJ Mosley and Nico Johnson, form a group of 4 linebackers that will be the best group in the SEC and one of the best in the country. It never seems to stop, the pipeline of talent that just continues to replace All American after All American these days in Tuscaloosa
Linebacker is my favorite position, so I get pretty excited. Can't wait to see guys like Ryan Anderson, Dillon Lee, Xzavier Dickson, Reggie Ragland, Denzel Duvall, Tyler Hayes, and Chris Bonds over the next few years. We are ALWAYS gonna have a couple All American linebackers every year as long as Nick Saban is in town
