First Scrimmage Stats And Notes!!!!!

Well, the first scrimmage is over and though it was closed to the media and public, some stats were released and a few comments got out

Earlier, someone said that the word from there was that backup QB Phillip Ely was regressing and I took the opportunity to once again state that I think true freshman Alec Morris will see the field this year as AJ's backup

I still believe that, but after the scrimmage Saban said that Ely managed the game better than Alec. "Freshman played like a freshman" was the way he put it

Amari Cooper continues to stand out. He had 3 receptions for 52 yards and a TD. Kevin Norwood had 2 catches for 61 yards

Freshman Danny Woodson with a nice catch today

Eddie Lacy was individually praised by Saban for his performance today, though he only carried the ball 8 times. But he did get 57 yards on those 8 carries, AND he led all receivers with 5 receptions. My guy Jalston Fowler had 7 carries for 35 yards and a TD, plus 3 receptions for 40 yards. TJ Yeldon had 2 TDs as well and fellow freshman Kenyan Drake had 33 yards and a TD

AJ was AJ. He threw for 222 yards and didn't throw a single pick. What else would you expect from one of the best QB's in the country against one of the 2 best D's he will face all year.

On defense, I know alot of people are worried about all the youth we have, me included, but I really think we will be fine because we have leading stars returning at each level all around the young guys.

VINNIE! VINNIE! VINNIE!

Vinnie Sunseri, who might damn well end up being my favorite player on D, blocked a FG and ran it back for a TD

Trey DePriest, another young star in the making, led the D with 5 tackles and also had an INT

We had ALL FOUR of our kickers, Shelley, Foster, Mandell, and the freshman stud Griffith, handling different duties and competing, so MY GOD IN HEAVEN we should be able to figure out how to be better at that this year

Overall, Saban said he was pleased with the scrimmage, that he saw alot of really good things out there, and you don't usually see him being happy after the first scrimmage. He said he is really happy for tomorrow, when the team will get their first day off since practice started back. The entire team will be going to church together
